How to Guides

Practical workflows once Compat is enabled and patches succeeded.

Survive Joomla 6 or PHP 8 upgrade

Install Compat, enable it, and retest login, stream, photos, stories, and article publishing. You know it worked when pages that fatals or flooded logs stop doing that and members can use the community again.

Stop article edit floods in the stream

Keep Compat enabled. Publish one Joomla article for the community, then edit it twice. You know it worked when the stream still shows one row for that article and the row refreshes after edit instead of spawning duplicates.

Writers paste screenshots into stories

Leave Enable story photo paste on Yes. Keep EasySocial emoticons enabled if you also want the searchable picker in comments and conversations. Test paste in the story composer and emoji search where your members actually post.

Day-to-day editorial habit

Publish once, then edit as needed. Expect one stream row that updates. Do not disable Compat mid-campaign and wonder why duplicates returned.

When StackIdeas catches up

If StackIdeas ships full Joomla 6 support that covers your stack, disable Compat and test thoroughly before uninstall. Your site may no longer need patches or stream ownership.

Template override cleanup

After 1.2.3 or newer, remove stale overrides for smileys or story layouts that force the old grid. Clear cache and hard-refresh until the portal-style searchable picker appears where emoticons are enabled.
