Troubleshooting

Most issues are patch not applied, patch overwritten, or backup missing. Start there.

After an OSCampus update

Vendor updates overwrite AbstractBase.php. Reinstall RCA OSCampus Compat so the patch applies again. Read the install message for success or failure. Clear Joomla cache and opcode cache. Create or edit a lesson on staging and confirm the PHP 8 trait property fatal is gone. Confirm AbstractBase.php.rca-orig still exists unless you deliberately removed it.

If lesson edit still fatals after reinstall

Confirm Compat reinstall completed without error. Open AbstractBase.php on disk and verify the typed app property fix is present. Compare OSCampus version to what Compat documents. Email support with exact fatal text, Joomla version, PHP version, OSCampus version, and Compat version. Do not hand-edit AbstractBase.php based on forum snippets.

Install said patch failed

Check filesystem permissions on administrator/components/com_oscampus/library/oscampus/. Confirm OSCampus is installed and AbstractBase.php exists at the expected path. A moved or renamed file in a non-standard OSCampus build may not match Compat targets.

Uninstall did not restore the file

Restore requires AbstractBase.php.rca-orig. If backup was deleted, restore from site backup or reinstall stock OSCampus. Uninstall cannot invent the original file from memory.

Other OSCampus errors remain

This plugin targets one AbstractBase typing fatal. Other admin or frontend errors may be separate Joomla 6 compatibility gaps in OSCampus. Document exact error text and treat them as separate investigations.

Opcode cache holding old PHP

After patch or reinstall, clear PHP opcode cache when lesson edit still shows the old fatal until you restart PHP-FPM or wait for TTL. That is infrastructure, not Compat logic failing silently.
