Overview
RCA J2C Direct Download gives you a honest one-click download path for free J2Commerce downloadable products on Joomla article pages. You embed one shortcode with a product ID. When the product qualifies, visitors see a secure DOWNLOAD NOW control instead of cart, checkout, and the ritual of pretending to pay zero dollars. Paid products and normal checkout stay on J2Commerce. This plugin does not replace the shop. It adds a lighter path only for the free downloadables you choose to expose that way.
What this product is
RCA J2C Direct Download is a free content plugin for Joomla 4, 5, and 6. The install element is rca_j2c_directdownload. The downloadable ZIP is named plg_content_rca_j2c_directdownload. In System → Plugins it appears as Content - RCA J2C Direct Download. The documented version line here is 1.0.7.
The plugin listens for the {rcadownload} shortcode in article body text. When the linked J2Commerce product is published, type downloadable, priced exactly zero, has at least one product file attached, and is not blocked by a per-product direct-download override, the shortcode renders a download form. The server re-checks every one of those conditions on submit. Guessing a product ID in the URL is not enough.

The plugin ZIP includes PSR-4 source, English language strings, install and uninstall SQL that creates an RCA ledger table for guest download counts and audit, stylesheet hooks loaded through Joomla’s Web Asset Manager, and registration with the free public update feed at https://recreatinganew.com.
What this is not
This is not a replacement for J2Commerce, payment gateways, or paid downloadable bypass. Files are not hosted by the plugin. They live wherever J2Commerce stores product downloads, and the plugin resolves paths the same way order download logic expects.
This is not RCA J2C Downloadable Files Sync, the Pro product that syncs versioned ZIPs from disk into J2Commerce product file rows. Direct Download consumes files J2Commerce already has attached to the product.
Who should use it
Use it when you run J2Commerce and publish free PDFs, samples, lead magnets, or other downloadables at zero price, and you want marketing articles with a single button instead of forcing cart and checkout. Use it when you want download counts in the RCA ledger and optional silent free orders in J2Commerce for logged-in customers who already have an email on file.
When to skip it
Skip it if the product is not free, not downloadable, or if you need every download to appear only as a completed J2Commerce order with full checkout history. Skip it if J2Commerce is not installed. J2Commerce itself does not ship article-level direct download for free products; even zero-dollar downloadables normally go through cart and checkout.
