Overview
RCA EasySocial Compat keeps EasySocial 4.0.x usable on modern Joomla and PHP 8. It applies targeted install-time patches to known break points, owns com_content article activity in the stream so one row updates on edit instead of flooding duplicates, upgrades the emoji picker with search, and optionally lets members paste clipboard images into the story composer. EasySocial still comes from StackIdeas. This plugin is not EasySocial and is not affiliated with StackIdeas.
What you are installing
You install a system plugin named System - RCA EasySocial Compat. The install element is plg_system_rca_easysocial_compat. The current documented release is 1.2.4 or newer. Free updates publish on the public feed at https://recreatinganew.com.
CODE HACK. On install or update this plugin applies PHP 8 and Joomla 6 compatibility fixes in a handful of EasySocial files, including photo, workflows, and lessc paths that commonly break under PHP 8. Each patched file gets a sibling .rca-orig backup when a patch applies. EasySocial updates overwrite those files. Update or reinstall Compat after EasySocial updates so patches run again.
Runtime features without new EasySocial PHP edits
Article stream ownership adjusts EasySocial article app parameters in the database so you get one stream row per Joomla article that updates in place. Emoji and smiley UI upgrades ship as plugin CSS and JavaScript when EasySocial emoticons are enabled. Story photo paste is optional under Enable story photo paste in plugin options and supersedes the old standalone Photo Paste plugin as of 1.2.4.
Who should use it
Use it if you run EasySocial on Joomla 6 or PHP 8 and hit known fatals or broken paths before StackIdeas covers your exact stack. Use it if community articles flood the activity stream on every minor edit. Use it if writers need screenshot paste in stories without a second extension.
When to skip it
Skip it if EasySocial is not installed. Skip it if StackIdeas already ships full support that covers your site and you verified the site cleanly without Compat. Skip it if you expected a full EasySocial rewrite or a replacement for StackIdeas support.
Honest limits
Patches were verified against EasySocial 4.0.14 and 4.0.15 patterns. Newer EasySocial builds can move files and the installer warns when targets changed. Story photo paste only works in the story composer with a real image on the clipboard and Enable story photo paste set to Yes. Remove stale template overrides that force the old smiley picker after Compat 1.2.3 or newer.
