Install and Updates

Install follows normal Joomla extension install. The patch pass runs on install and update, which is why you read the messages instead of clicking through them.

Install steps

Confirm EasySocial is present in admin and, if possible, on a basic frontend profile or stream page. Open System → Install → Extensions and upload the Compat ZIP. Enable the plugin from System → Plugins when needed.

Interpret install messages

Successful patch lines list files that were updated. Each patched file should have a sibling .rca-orig backup. Warning lines mean EasySocial’s files no longer match expected patch points. Note your EasySocial version and the warning text. Do not hand-edit EasySocial core blindly.

Upgrade Compat

Install the newer ZIP over the existing plugin. Read install messages again because patch targets may have shifted with your EasySocial version. Clear cache and retest login, stream, photos, stories, article ownership, emoji, and paste.

After an EasySocial update

Take a backup or work on staging first. Update EasySocial the way StackIdeas documents. Update or reinstall RCA EasySocial Compat so install-time patches run again. Read install messages for success or warnings. Clear cache and retest the workflows you care about. Keep .rca-orig files until you are sure you do not need manual restore.

Uninstall considerations

Uninstalling Compat does not automatically restore every patched EasySocial file. If you need originals back, restore from site backup or from .rca-orig copies beside patched files. After uninstall, EasySocial’s own article stream_create and stream_update behavior can return depending on how parameters were left. Test article publishing after you remove Compat. If StackIdeas later ships full Joomla 6 support for your stack, disable Compat and test before you uninstall.
