Configuration

Component options

Open Components → RCA MasonryWall → Options (toolbar on the widgets dashboard or via System → Global Configuration → RCA MasonryWall if your Joomla version lists it there).

Load Font Awesome: Leave enabled unless your template already loads Font Awesome and you see duplicate icon CSS. Disable only after you confirm icons still render on the wall.

Enable version checking: When enabled, the admin dashboard can compare your installed package to the RCA private update feed. Turn it off only on locked-down staging sites with no outbound HTTP.

Permissions: Use the Permissions tab to limit which user groups can configure widgets, groups, custom items, and grids. Front-end visibility still follows Joomla article and module access levels.

Widget and masonry defaults

There is no single global “default masonry layout” for all widgets. Each widget stores its own layout, filter, and pagination JSON. Clone an existing widget from the widgets list when you want a second wall that behaves like the first, then change categories or groups.

Module parameters

Edit Content → Site Modules → RCA MasonryWall Module. The required field is Widget ID, which must match a published widget. Optional module class suffix and layout override follow standard Joomla module rules.

Content source plugins (enable matrix)

All RCA MasonryWall source plugins are in the content plugin group. Search masonrywall on the plugins list.

1. rca_masonrywallcontent — Joomla articles and categories (com_content). Required for standard category walls.

2. rca_masonrywallcustom — Custom Items tied to Items Groups.

3. rca_masonrywallfolder — Images from a filesystem folder under your media tree.

4. rca_masonrywallrss — External RSS feeds.

5. rca_masonrywallvideos, rca_masonrywallaudio, rca_masonrywallpdf — Media-type sources.

6. rca_masonrywalleasyblog, rca_masonrywallfaqbookpro — Third-party stacks; install and publish those products first.

7. rca_masonrywallvirtuemart, rca_masonrywalljomsocial — Require VirtueMart or JomSocial / Community.

After you enable a plugin, create a new widget or re-open the data source step so Joomla reloads the source catalog tiles.

Detail box typography and colors

On each widget, the Detail box tab sets global fonts and, from release 1.2.22, text colors for title, introtext, date, category, and read more. Per-layout tabs override globals when fields are filled. Pagination and Filters tabs include their own font fields from 1.2.16 onward.

Global vs per-widget plugin settings

Some plugins expose a Plugin tab on the widget edit screen (in addition to Data source). Those values apply only to that widget. Global plugin parameters, if any, live on System → Plugins → [plugin name] and apply site-wide before widget overrides.
